When to synthesize

I am doing the blog read app, and in the later stages Amit stops @synthesizing his properties.

He only does it with the first 2 he makes, but he stops this in later videos, without any problems.

Why does he do this, and when should I synthesize and not synthesize?

BTW, I have been synthesizing every property because it just seems the right thing to do.

There was on a thread here on the forums that may help you. Basically, the earlier videos were made before a new version of Xcode was released. In the new version, you no longer need to synthesize your properties--Xcode handles all that for you.
