Where do I put short code in Wordpress?

In the example, Zac adds a widget in wordpress and then his site has all the badges that he earned on Treehouse. I put in the widget, but I just get an empty box on the side of my wordpress page. I'm supposed to put short code in somewhere, but I have no idea where. Could someone help me with this?

Did you configure the widget with your username? Shortcode generally goes in a post.

Yes, I put in my username, and it said…"Below are your 20 most recent badges"…but it shows no badges.
