Which Hosting is the best?

I am looking for the best VPS hosting service that has a datacenter in the US Northeast. Any suggestions?

The site is a mix of old school static html, some pages have php and then it has a wordpress based blog.

Also, what is Better? Cloud Hosting, VPS, SSD? And what level of Raid do I need? What are the advantages of these?

So far I've narrowed it down to ServInt and Linode. Any others I should be looking at?

Any suggestions?

I found out today about DreamHost, and they actually have this going on which makes me want to start my blog or website soon. http://www.dreamhost.com/promo/kotaku100/?utm_source=kotakuholiday&utm_medium=content&utm_campaign=kotakuholiday

Thanks Christian, The deal looks awesome but I'm looking for a VPS Service. I saw their plans and the ram offered is too little. I think it was 300mb for $15 a month.

I have so far been looking at Servint and Linode which both seem to have robust systems backed by Developers and offer solid pricing and technology.

I am wondering if anyone has had experience with these two companies and if there are any others I should be looking at.

Thanks again, that deal did look awesome though.

I suggest you use A Small Orange good prices and good support.

Thanks for the suggestion, I just checked them out. Very little storage offered though. Is that something I should be concerned about if the site will have tons of pictures?

You get what you pay for, it's better to have good support and reasonable amounts of space than merely ok support and cheap space.

You need to know how much space (in terms of GBs) you are currently using and what your rate of growth in storage is over the of a year. If you don't know that, your sites are probably too small to worry about it.

Cool, Very true. Support is key. I ran a search to compare sites and my first idea was to use a VPS either from Linode or ServInt. Any opinions on those two?

Based on your suggestion of A Small Orange I see that a good comparison would be GreenGeeks. Any opinions on them?

I thank you for your help. I'm trying to move from a crappy hosting environment (Yahoo). To a more powerful and robust platform.

I can't comment on ServInt or GreenGeeks as I've never heard of either, that doesn't necessarily mean much there are a lot of good companies I haven't heard of.

I can personally recommend Digital Ocean. I haven't had to deal with support yet but from twitter and such it seems like people are very pleased with support. They also have a full API so if you want to you can manage it programatically.

They look promising. Good specs for the money. Gonna research them more thoroughly. Thanks for tip.

I switched to Digital Ocean about a year ago and I've been really impressed. I definitely recommend giving them a go.
