Which track to choose for interactive map website?

I would like to build a website with an interactive map. The user would be able to hover over points on the map and display corresponding images, and perhaps pull up google earth map data. I am trying to decide which track to tackle in order to build this website. I already have a fair amount of basic experience with Wordpress (I taught myself and made my art portfolio page), and am wondering if I can develop this type of website using Wordpress, or if I would be better off starting the Website Design and Website Development tracks. Any opinions or experience here on interactive map pages or integrating google map data?

Thanks!

Web development track has JavaScript lessons (could give you more detail in your map).
