Java Java Basics Getting Started with Java Strings, Variables, and Formatting

Why am I getting this error: 'static' is only allowed in constant variable declarations.

Why do I get this error when I use public static void main (String [] args){

Name.java
// I have setup a java.io.Console object for you named console
class Introductions {
  public static void main (String [] args){
    String firstName = "John";
  }
}

Hey John,

The instructions for challenges are very specific and must be followed exactly for a task to pass. Here the instructions say nothing about creating a Class or a Main method. It just wants you to "define a string variable". In fact, a comment in the code block does state: "// I have setup a java.io.Console object for you named console".

So, while the code is correct, it goes way beyond what the task is looking for and therefore is confusing the Code Checking Engine.

All task 1 is looking for is:

    String firstName = "John";

Other than that... Nice job! Just remember don't do what isn't asked. :)

:dizzy:

Thank you very much!
