Why can't I exit REPL using "clear?"

I am watching the "Welcome back" lesson and am following along with Craig. I am tried inserting code to return to using treehouse:~/workspace$. Craig uses ":cls" to clear the screen, and then "clear" to quit. This did not work for me. Instead I typed :help and used the ":quit" command. It seemed to do the trick. I am wondering if this had something to do with the updated version of REPL? Thanks. =]

He mentions it at the very end of the video, "To exit REPL, use CTRL+C." That's probably why it looked instantaneous when he exited. No more confusion! =]
