Why can't we just edit the original array if we want to add items to it?

We are shown in the video that to edit an array that has already been created we use .append() operator. Why can't we just edit the original array without using append

Hi there, Jed Odagbu ! That's a great question. I'm not sure to which video you are referring here, but the reason to alter an array via append versus just changing the original array is flexibility. You might not know in advance what that array should contain.

Take the example of a "To Do" list app. How are you going to know what to put in that "To Do" list array until the user tells you what they need to do? You would likely have an input field where they could add a task and then you append that to the original array.

Hope this helps! :sparkles:
