Why couldn't we just use mongoose method findByIdAndUpdate()? Is there particular reason for making,own update method

In the video, the instructor made us create update instance method which is equivalent to model.findByIdAndUpdate(). Are there any benefits to this method other than that we can call it on Answer instance and findByIdAndUpdate we call it on the document?
