Why do I have to install MAMP?

I took this course a few months ago and it said nothing about MAMP. I tried using the Desktop Server today for the first time since then and was so confused about what it was telling me. "Web and database services are not currently running." Select "No." or "Yes. Start Apache and MySQL services". Not sure what any of that means. And MAMP Pro costs $$ ? Ugh.

I feel like this video explains absolutely nothing. I'm so lost. "Type this here" "drag this folder there". But what does this all mean!?!? Can you tell I'm frustrated? haha

MAMP is a great tool that allows you to run a server environment on your local machine. Without it, you cannot run things like Apache, PHP, mySQL databases locally. It is great for developing locally and then being able to transfer it to a "real" web server. Looks like some others are confused and Andrew's comment, while old, is still relevant. https://teamtreehouse.com/community/what-is-mamp

Hope this helps!
