Why do I keep getting a negative array size exception?

if(responseCode==HttpURLConnection.HTTP_OK){

                InputStream inputStream=connection.getInputStream();
                Reader reader= new InputStreamReader(inputStream);
                //Log.e(TAG,"Length of content:"+connection.getContentLength());
                int contentLength=connection.getContentLength();
                char[] charArray= new char[contentLength];
                reader.read(charArray);
                String responseData= new String(charArray);
                Log.v(TAG,responseData);

My log tells me the exception occurs at the contentLength variable.

Can you also post your URL and HttpURLConnection object declarations?

What did that log return if you uncomment it out?

Edit: A faster solution might be to use Huberts code in this thread.

URL blogFeedUrl = new URL("http://blog.teamtreehouse.com/api/get_recent_summary/?count="+NUMBER_OF_POSTS);

            HttpURLConnection connection=(HttpURLConnection) blogFeedUrl.openConnection();

I don't get anything in the log
