Why do you use the "strip_tags" function, instead of just echoing out "get_the_excerpt", which also doesn't include p?

Exactly what I thought. Anyway, I think he just wanted to introduce us to the strip_tags() function (appreciated!) and maybe forgot that the get_ version gives us just the content without the tags. Or maybe Wordpress used to do it different back when this video was recorded.
