Why does my Windows 8 command prompt run so slow?

Hello programmers!

I have a question as to why my Windows 8 command prompt runs so slow when compared to the videos.

I am specifically doing the Ruby on Rails lessons.

I am switching to a linux distro soon, which I would imagine runs more 'normal', but even starting a rails server takes upwards of 10 seconds.

Any clues as to why this is happening, and perhaps there is a way to fix it?

Thanks guys!

Windows sometimes has a lot of background processes running which might slow you down. This said DO NOT START ENDING PROCESS TO INCREASE SPEED. This will end badly I promise. Linux has much less background stuff to drain resources.

Also it is highly likely on a Windows computer that you have some sort of virus or malware which could be slowing down your machine. I would reccomend getting Malwarebytes and running a scan. If thats clean then maybe your system is simply a little slower then other. I would assume Treehouse has pretty top of the line equipment.

Lastly nice call on switching to Linux but I would test it first and do not wipe off windows 8 all together the max I would reccomend would be a dual boot. Linux is fantastic. I am running Ubuntu now, but it can be a bit of a shock if you arn't prepared.
