Should tables be used for Layout? no, we have better tools now like bootstrap(which is really just making a type of table) and good css practices.
However, data tables are not Irrelevant there is plenty of times to use them. Such as when presenting table data. or I just used it to create a checkbox array for editing 2D Security Roles. Also, Html tables can be used to free data to excel or other similar programs.
