Why does she need to check each $dateMatch? Isn't checkDate() enough?

Do we really need the following code?

strlen($dateMatch[0]) != 2 || strlen($dateMatch[1]) != 2 || strlen($dateMatch[2]) != 4

Isn't checkDate() enough to validate the date?

Yep, agreed. Also, should be using the html form element 'date' to handle date input IMO?
