Why does wikiUrl+person.name work ? There is a space between first and last name.

Why does this part of the code work properly ? getJson(wikiUrl+person.name, generateHTML);

There is a space in the json.person.name property like "name": "Alexander Skvortsov" but it still works when calling the xhr.open with the above url.

Shouldn't it work only when replacing the space between first and lastname with a + sign?

I believe the browser automatically encodes the space to %20 when the request is made. Next, the Wikipedia API redirects you from https://en.wikipedia.org/api/rest_v1/page/summary/Aleksandr%20Skvortsov to https://en.wikipedia.org/api/rest_v1/page/summary/Aleksandr_Skvortsov
