Why import Foundation?

I'm just starting using Swift, and I didn't do the Objective C courses, so I'd like to know the reason they import foundation, what it brings to the table when its imported, basically.

Hi Lago,

Apple have an reference page that explains Foundation, it's uses and why it's important to iOS and OS X development, even though the below says classic the framework itself still applies itself in the same way in Swift.
