Why increasing dip in relative layout decreases the size of padding?

Increasing activity_vertical_margin and activity_horizontal_margin to 160dp decreases the size of padding. Why?

I am not sure why this is.

If I update the padding to 160dp, I see an increase in the amount of padding.
