Why is GOOGLE CHROME not opening up my HTML files?

I've been working on a project for days. I used to edit, open that up, refresh and keep on working on that (obviously you guys know the process). But now I can't open the file with a double-click. I've gone through every detail like making sure whether chrome is my default browser or not, setting chrome as the default app for HTML files etc. Need your help

What happens when you try to double click on the file? Does it open a browser at all? Does it open a tab with the title of your page?

It doesn't do anything at all. I mean it doesn't hang up or something like that. It's like as if it ignores the double click wholly.

As a workaround, at least, you can always drag and drop the HTML file into a Chrome tab.

Well yes, I've been doing that for a while. It's just that I was curious why this happens.

I'm not sure what operating system you're using. In windows, try right clicking on your .html file and choosing "open with" and then click on chrome. You can also check a box to always open files of that type in Chrome. In OSX you can right click on the file choose "get info" and then scroll down and check which program it should be opening in.
