Why is my catch method not catching the exception ?

Main.java

    public static void main(String[] args) {
        GoKart kart = new GoKart("yellow");
        if (kart.isBatteryEmpty()) {
          System.out.println("The battery is empty");
        }
        kart.drive(2);

      try {
        kart.drive(100);
         } catch (IllegalArgumentException iae) {
           System.out.printf("warning %s", iae.getMessage());
         }
    }

You've pretty much got it. Checking the challenge, it wants you to have the kart.drive(2); statement in the try block. Otherwise that line will throw an exception and the rest won't run.

It may be that the code you're executing in the try statement isn't throwing an IllegalArgumentException.

Try changing the IllegalArgumentException to Exception and see what happens.

Every exception inherits from the Exception class, so if you catch Exception, you're essentially catching all unchecked exceptions that could possibly be thrown.
