Hi! That's the way my brain solved the problem at the time. There's never one right way to code a project but I highly encourage tweaking any projects you work through to put your own spin on them especially if you're going to use them as portfolio pieces to share with potential employers. If it makes more sense to you right now to use strptime, then go for it! I think that's a great idea.
