It took me four months to just start getting to where i understand the basics, giving myself 5 hours on four days a week. There is other material like HTML5 foundations by Matt West that helped me alot, CSS3 foundations by Ian Lunn. Other content i found to help alongside treehouse is https://javascript.info/hello-world and plus w3schools etc etc.

I found learning by treehouse tricky at first but with putting the hours in to studying and looking at other material i muddled through..
