Seems to be a better to have as little code as possible rather than adding more complexity...

243,656 PointsThe easiest code doesn't always produce the best userr experience (UX). Most users will find a control that is disabled more natural and intuitive to use than one that vanishes, particularly if the vanishing also disturbs the alignment of other controls.
