Why should we include "selection" in the protocol??

The vending machine protocol has the following:

protocol VendingMachineType {
    var selection: [VendingSelection] { get }
    var inventory: [VendingSelection: ItemType] { get set }
    var amountDeposited: Double { get set }
}

Why should we include "var selection: [VendingSelection] { get }"? The inventory already has the selections...

var selection: [VendingSelection] { get } This variable is use to keep track of the user selection, like whether they selected Soda, Chips, and etc.
