I think You're missing a couple close parens. one for your function, and another for your class. You've got some tabbing off so it's hard to see, I've corrected it and added this missing parens below.

class Example {

  public static void main(String[] args) {
    GoKart kart = new GoKart("purple");
    if (kart.isBatteryEmpty()) {
      System.out.println("The battery is empty");
    }
    try {
      kart.drive(42);
    } catch(IllegalArgumentException iae) {

It looks like you just need to add the method: getMethod() inside your parenthesis on your output:

class Example {

  public static void main(String[] args) {
    GoKart kart = new GoKart("purple");
    if (kart.isBatteryEmpty()) {
      System.out.println("The battery is empty");
    }
    try{
      kart.drive(42);

    }catch(IllegalArgumentException iae){
       System.out.println(iae.getMessage());
    }
  }
