Why will Xcode not open?

I'm having issues with Xcode; last night we updated from Mavericks to Yosemite, could it be that my version of Xcode is to old? I'm using version 5.1.1. Thanks!

Could be, the latest version of Xcode is 6.1

Do you have a reason not to update it?

I posted another question on the forum asking if OS X 10.10 was compatible with the version of Xcode I'm using and it seems that the answer is yes, my brother said it might have been that it was updating. The reason I haven't updated yet is because our computer was going really slow.
