Widgets vs Plugins

are widgets and plugins the same thing. In the video Zac started off talking about widgets then he added a plugin and it seems to have loaded in the widget area.

Is a widget a plugin?

Hi Tarry,

Not exactly. Plugins are ways of extending the core functionality of WordPress whereas Widgets are ways of adding features (sometimes from plugins) to sidebars, etc.

Hope that helps.

Not really, a plugin is an extension. It can be anything, from a widget to something complementary to optimize your website
