Do websites like www.wix.com threaten those of us who hope to get into the field of web development?

31,709 PointsIn my experience no. I do Wordpress and Drupal development, and I have never had a potential client say "Nah I'll just use Wordpress.com or Drupal Gardens". Most of the people who use those site are doing so for personal blogs/websites or because they can't afford a web developer (so your not losing business because they probably weren't going to pay for you anyways). I've also found that if/when people outgrow these sites and there limitations they will find a web developer to migrate/upgrade their web presence. I know someone who owns a catering business and had a wix site for a few years. They were getting enough business that they want to get more out of there web site (recipes, booking events, sample menus). So they came to me and asked me to build them a new site. I said no, because I don't do work for friends or family, and recommended a local design/development firm I know.
