Wordpress basic template (2014, 2013... or create my own?

Is it best to use a basic template such as 2013, 2014... or create my own. This is for a client site and someone suggested that it is best to create my own template for a wordpress site which requires customization.

It really depends on so many things. What is purpose of the site? Who is it for? What does it need to do? Which demands does your client have?

There is little doubt that the basic WP templates are some solid starter themes, but for client work I find them to be too basic. But again! It really depends on what the needs of your client is.
