Wordpress developers: Do you use CPanel or do you use the command line?

What do you all think? The head developer at my internship says I shouldn't use it.

My experience is command line is more powerful than any GUI app but it all comes down to personal preference.

  • Powerful doesn't optimizes for usefulness, productivity or developer happiness.
  • I want my tools to help me get things done, quickly and easily.
  • Most command line UIs are terrible from a UX perspective and seem to be made by someone who spent very little time designing that interface.

Right tool, for the right job, command lines excel at batch processing, scripting and text processing.

A few thoughts:

  • It seems to me that a lot of people in web world are very trend-centric and the command line is very trendy.
  • The right tool for the right job, sometimes that's cPanel and sometimes that a 20-line bash script.
  • Most importantly usually these things are mutually exclusive, most hosts where you have cPanel are "shared hosting" and you aren't given SSH access. Most VPSs on the other hand, they don't come with cPanel so you don't have a choice you have to use SSH.

James Barnett Great feedback in regards in tools. The web world is very trend-centric, I'm surprised people have not been asking about a course on swift yet lol
