Wordpress One Page Site not showing content, given code not working.

So I'm working on the Workshop for the Wordpress One Page Site, and I get to the point of adding a new template to make all the Pages show up one after the other on the Home Page,

Home blah blah blah

About blah blah blah

Contact blah blah blah

ect... but as soon as I add the template file (one-page-site.php within the active theme folder - with the code copied from the downloadable file for the workshop) and set the Home page to that template in the page editor, 2 things happen:

1) The content of my home page (a couple paragraphs) disappear (on the live view, not in the editor) so that all that comes up is the site header and subheading, and the sidebar - not even the "Home" title appears anymore.

2) The other pages do not appear in the One Page format like they're supposed to. They simply remain in the menu bar and no where else.

As far as I can tell I've followed the video exactly, and the code is exactly the same so I'm not sure where the problem is.
