Wordpress & PHP

Hi, can anyone please advise. I've completed the Beginning Wordpress track and now started the Development for Wordpress, however it seems to have great emphasis on PHP. For anyone who has done this course, Im asking is it advisable to do the Beginning PHP track first and then?

I haven't taken the PHP track yet but you literally create WordPress themes and plugins with PHP so I don't think it's a bad idea to have some basic PHP knowledge before learning how to develop for WordPress.

Since you asked this a few months ago, what did you decide to do in the end?
