Would it be best to learn python or php for automating tasks?

I want to automate tasks like web scrapers but I also want to manipulate gui's hosted on a vps? Which language out of the to is best to learn?

I would recommend Python for this. While everything you need may be possible in PHP it is not gonna be pretty or easy. In Python web scrapping will be easy and your other question seems plausible. I love the language. It is simple, beautiful, and massive. Their are tons of useful library's and people willing to help with every question.
