(Xcode) Huge black screen and the simulator size is ginormous

Building the first app leaves me with a black screen, which I found to disappear after half a minute or so but the simulator is a lot larger than that of an iphone5s screen. Everything is so huge.

How to I rescale everything?

You probably have an older apple device which is pre-retina, you'll need to scale the simulators.

When you have the simulator open, go to "Window" --> "Scale" from the menu bar at the top.
