Can someone Please suggest me a roadmap to create classified and social network website from scratch?

I have no idea about web development at all. I am about to start. I would like to know what I need to learn in order to create a classified website and social networking website. These both are for my work assignments where we are going to build social network for a Uni in Australia.

Can someone please suggest me step by step process as in what language and other applications to learn?

There is already a course(s) which help you develop a social network site like Facebook. It is built upon the "Rubs on Rails" framework. This means you will need to learn Ruby. Just be aware that the course for the social network is pretty old. It may or may not be outdated. I haven't done it myself but I will in the next few days. I can't confidently say it is the best option but it is a pretty good one. Besides, you just have to follow instructions to make it so it wouldn't be a problem.
