Questions about the Upcoming Java Track.

Hi! I opened this topic to know more about the upcoming Java Track.

I know how hard can be to learn java, but i also know that Treehouse will do a great job teaching it.

I have a couple of questions that might or might not interest to the community. Maybe the experts (I'm talking about you, Ben Jakuben) will be so kind to answer.

How big is this going to be? Is it going to be about general java or just java for the android framework?

If general What are we going to see? Do you plan to teach desktop GUI such as swing or JavaFX?

Treehouse is mostly oriented to the web Does this mean that JavaEE is going to be taught?

I know that i might be asking too much questions but I'm really curious and interested.

This will be a full Java track, on par with Ruby on Rails, for example. It will take some time to fill out and the final makeup will be up to the Java teacher, of course. Our goal will be to cover the basics in such a way as to be useful for both Android and other types of Java development and then get into more advanced topics and frameworks like desktop apps and web frameworks. Specifics will be decided by the teacher (and student input!).

The job posting is still open, so it all depends on when we find the best possible candidate. Once she or he starts we plan on hitting the ground running, though! We'll add material to the public roadmap as soon as we have solid dates, but it will be at least one month after the new teacher starts.

That's exciting! Even though I have plenty of material to learn and practice before jumping into Java! Thanks Ben. I too like to think that the world is evolving on a positive trajectory.
