Treehouse Points

Hello All, I'm just wondering how the treehouse points work? what do they count towards? What do the badges do?
I hear people really complaining about having lost points or trying to gain points, etc. Does it translate into anything tangible or is it just a way of tracking progress? Thanks Teni x

Adeshola Giokabari: Points are earned by completing course quizzes, challenges, and sections; as well as answering questions on the forums that other Treehouse students appreciated to the extent they marked your answer(s) as the 'best answer' or ranked it up as a good answer answer with the ^ button.

At the end of the day, it's there for you to arbitrary associate value to them beyond proving you had successfully completed and understood a particular topic at that given day.

You show it off to your parents, use it as a basis to motivate or 'compete' with friends, or merely show an employer or coworker you're having progress towards a particular skill you interested in that happens to be on this site.

Since there's no way for points on Treehouse to be reduced as far as their original value course , there shouldn't be much complaints about points as far as I know.

In more complex gamification systems, you lose points if you need provided keys or 'buying' the answer. Treehouse currently doesn't do any of those things I'm used to in other learning platforms on the web, so there honestly shouldn't be much conversations on Treehouse about points.

I've gotten points by completing tasks and quizzes. I hope that helps

I had the same question, this was the first thread to pop up when I searched before finding the official answer - check it out. May help you in some way.

Excerpt from the Announcement message regarding the points system:

Everyone now has a points total that is associated with their profile. Here is a quick breakdown of how points are given:

Complete a Quiz: 6 Points Complete Code Challenge: 12 Points Receive a New Badge: 30 Points Complete a Project or Deep Dive: 60 points Complete a Learning Adventure: 150 Points When points get added to your profile they are generally organized by topic. Receive a new CSS badge and get 30 >points added to the CSS category in your profile. When you complete an entire Project, Deep Dive or Learning >Adventure those “achievement points” are added to your total points instead of being associated with a specific topic.
