why do I have fewer screen options on my word press site than in the video?

I have an existing WordPress site that I created through my web host's c panel based on 3.8. When I signed up with TreeHouse I decided to edit my Blog to use the same theme as in the videos (Twenty-Eleven) to make it easier to follow along. Even though I have the same theme, I have noticed on a few occasions that I am unable to follow the video because my word press is missing the option being demonstrated. Is this just because I have a newer version?

among the differences I have noticed:

I could not find was privacy in the Settings menu. Also, I see many fewer screen options on the dash board page and the columns options is not there at all. Is there a way to make my installation exactly like the one in the video?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

This is just due to changes that they've made in different versions of WordPress. You can now find the security settings under Settings -> Reading.

As for the Screen Options, one of the things they did with the recent update was decide to remove things that people did not really use.

great.

That's what I suspected. I had already found the security settings options was different through a Google search. I am enjoying the videos so far thanks for the quick response

My pleasure! Glad you're enjoying the videos :) We have a new course coming out in a few weeks that works with 3.8 and will replace some of the older issues you're seeing here.
