As a part of your learning
journey here at Treehouse,
0:00
you'll probably come across zip files.
0:03
Zip files are compressed files making
them easier to share and store.
0:05
We use them to share course files,
project files and more.
0:11
Here I am in the Downloads tab for
a video on a course here on Treehouse.
0:18
When I click the Project Files button
it'll download the project files and
0:25
you can see it's a zip file. Now
0:31
if I navigate to my Downloads,
you can see I have this basic-oop here.
0:36
But because it's a zip file,
I can't access the files
0:43
inside of it until I open or
unzip this file.
0:48
I can access the files by double
clicking on it, choosing File Explorer.
0:53
And then I can choose Extract All.
1:01
Now, it's going to ask me where I
want to put the extracted files.
1:05
Since I'm probably going to
want to keep them and use them,
1:11
I will want to put them inside
of my Documents folder.
1:15
So you can see, I click Documents and now
it says Documents down here in the bottom
1:19
and I'm gonna choose Select Folder, and it
changes the file path here to Documents.
1:24
I'm gonna click Extract.
1:33
And then I can close out of that one and
click on Documents.
1:38
And you can now see I have
the basic-oop folder here and
1:43
when I double click into it,
now I can actually see
1:48
the folders and
files inside of this folder.
1:53
Sometimes it's easier to move the zip file
where you want these files to end up first
1:57
before unzipping them, or you can move
them throughout the process like we did.
