Before we can get started with Git, we need to make sure that you have access to the tools you'll need to follow along.
[? music ?] [Git Basics with Tommy Morgan] [Getting Started with Git Deep Dive]
[Morgan] So you know what version control does,
and you're ready to start learning how to use Git.
The first thing we need to do is make sure you have access to an installed version of Git
so that you can follow along with the lessons.
If you already have Git installed, great.
You're one step ahead of me. Go ahead and jump on to the next video.
If not, you have 2 options.
First you can install Git on your own computer.
If you have a Mac, good news, you've already got Git installed as it comes on your system by default.
If you're on a Windows PC we have a video guide to help you through the install process.
If you're running Linux then we trust you'll know how to install Git on your computer
using your package manager
but be sure to pop into the forums and ask if you have any trouble.
Second you can use the treehouse console application
to follow along without needing to install anything on your own computer just yet.
Just look for the console button and go ahead to the next video.
Choose the path that works best for you,
and let's get ready for Git.
