Hello fellow coders and Treehouse students - I'm Sarah, based in New York City, USA. I'm a self-taught software developer with a penchant for artificial intelligence and space exploration. I'm a longevity advocate, fitness enthusiast, and avid learner of quantum health.
Becoming a full-stack developer
I'm currently learning how to code front-end web development through our phenomenal online organization called Treehouse. Right now, I am on a career path to be a full-stack developer (Software engineer). I enjoy coding and learning all core concepts of programming. It's challenging and fun at the same time.
As of now, I'm focusing on building my tech skills and building my portfolio website showcasing all my relevant tech skills in web development.
100 Days of Code
In September 2020 I decided to take on the 100 days of code challenge through team treehouse with an open mind. I wanted to improve my technical skills.
The encouraging aspect of learning how to code was that I understood more about myself and how I learn in the process. Coding with consistency, persistence, and discipline is a goal that is slowly and gradually becoming a habit.
Joy in learning
I am learning an immense amount of information, improving my technical skills, and I found my learning style - project-based learning. I'm currently working on a project for a portfolio website.
Treehouse is in-depth
What I love the most about Treehouse is how in-depth and interactive the video tutorials are. You really do write code as you learn how to code right in the workspaces provided with the curriculum. The mini challenging tasks and quizzes between each model are so fun. I get to apply what I've learned.
Front-end web development
When I first started out with the front-end web development track I immediately began work on building a portfolio website for myself. I'm still working on some of the projects in the course and I want to strengthen my CSS skills too. I'm learning at my own pace - a slow steady pace is how I learn best. I want to thoroughly understand the material being covered in the track.
Getting into a Flow State
As I learn I feel like I am in a flow state. My attention and concentration are strictly on learning to write code. Sometimes I have to rewind a particular video to take valuable notes and process critical thinking.
I participated in Networking Thursdays through the Treehouse website and began networking with fellow treehouse students on LinkedIn. Now I have over 400 connections and still remain active in connecting with professional software engineers.
