I added the label but where exactly am I supposed to put it if not before select or h1

The instructions don't say it, but the label needs a for attribute that connects to the id of the select element. Take a look at how this example is structured as a reference:

<label for="cars">Choose a car:</label>

<select name="cars" id="cars">
  <option value="volvo">Volvo</option>
  <option value="saab">Saab</option>
  <option value="mercedes">Mercedes</option>
  <option value="audi">Audi</option>
</select>
