git push -u origin master leads to empty line with a blinking cursor

When I enter git git push -u origin master then I am left with an empty line with a blinking cursor. Pressing enter just moves the blinking cursor down a line. Entering my username types the text out on screen but does nothing. Github's page shows that things are still unconnected.

Did you write git git (ie twice?) try just saying git push.... Sometimes when you have added quotes it will continue as well until you close the quotes
