Networking Thursday

Hey Treehouse Students!

Welcome back to another Networking Thursday, where you can make connections with other Treehouse Students.

⬇️ Scroll down to learn about our upcoming free live event! ⬇️

πŸ’¬ How to participate:

  1. Answer the icebreaker activity – In celebration of AAPI Heritage Month – what are some of your favorite dishes from the AAPI community? πŸ“Έ Post pics! Check the Markdown Cheatsheet for how to do this. Thanks to Treehouse Instructor, Megan Amendola, for this icebreaker question!
  2. Share your LinkedIn profile URL for other students to connect to.
  3. Share links and/or screenshots of the projects you've been working on.
  4. Share your interests, hobbies, etc!
  5. Chat with other students here by responding to their posts!

Make those connections, support each other, leave some endorsements/recommendations on other student's LinkedIn profiles, lend a helping hand to folx in search of work in tech, and give some positive feedback on fellow student's projects. We're all on this learning journey together!

I'll kick things off! πŸ’¬

I'm Ryan Mouser, the Content & Community Marketing Specialist here at Treehouse. My pronouns are he/him. I was 15 years old when I started learning to code in PHP for a popular text-based MMORPG game. I've been with Treehouse for over 2 years now and have had the amazing opportunity to wear many different hats. I've been learning with Treehouse since 2015 (you can check out my previous profile here).

Currently, I'm working alongside our world-class team on some exciting opportunities to bring the Treehouse Community closer together. Stay tuned! πŸ˜€

Pad Thai and Ramen are some of my all-time favorite dishes from the AAPI community. How about you?

Outside of Treehouse, I have the joy of living life with my incredible wife, our 3 awesome kids, and our 2 cat furbabies. We love to make music, garden, cook, play games, and watch fun TV.

You can connect with me on LinkedIn here. Looking forward to connecting with y'all!

Hoping you all stay safe, healthy, and well!

I'm Sarah. I'm an academic at heart. A habitual student learning and improving my metacognition. Also, I am interested in improving my understanding of computer science. Data structures and algorithms across multiple programming languages enthralls me.

I am currently working on my first project which is building a portfolio website of all current and future projects. See my linkedin profile for more information.

I'm so thrilled to start sharing more of myself and documenting my journey with all of you.

For the longest time I've had the wrong perceptions on math. I had a math phobia. In the past I dislike math only because I had poor self image in my own abilities to master mathematics and I didn't have the motivation or support from my peers to enable me to be confident in mastering it.

Now my perception has changed. I like that doing math problems creates new neural pathways and expands cognitive capabilities in the brain.

I love the learning process and find joy in the challenge of it.

I love Pocky! I hope to travel to Japan one day and taste all the special flavors they have exclusively in Japan! Greetings from sunny Florida! I'm Erika and I am on the FEWD journey. I started a little over 2 months ago. I am working towards changing my career from librarian to FEWD. I am pressing my way through Unit 2 of the program and currently learning CSS and Flexbox. I have a variety of hobbies that I enjoy besides learning new things. I enjoy running, yoga, spending time with my dog Jubilee (you can see her pretty face in my profile picture), reading (my favorite genres are Sci-Fi, Fantasy and manga), helping out at my church, playing Animal Crossing New Horizons, watching Disney movies, coloring, and building LEGO sets. This is my Twitter and LinkedIn. Nice to meet you all and thank you for sharing your stories!

Hey everyone, nice to meet you! I'm Andrew, a Full Stack JavaScript student here! My guilty comfort foods are か぀丼 (katsudon) and γŸγ“η„Όγ (takoyaki). I have to be careful when I eat it or I'll go overboard 🀣 I have to go into Philadelphia to get the good stuff, so that's a bit of a deterrent (sometimes haha!) Please feel free to send me a connection request on LinkedIn! andrewbhickman

I've recently finished the first project for the TechDegree - the Random Quote Generator! You can view a demo here and the source code here.

I like to run, and am training for my first marathon in September up in Lake Placid, NY. I love to play the piano, and have written a lot of my own songs. I'm currently learning Cubase as my DAW and hope to put my songs up on Spotify. I've been studying Japanese for about a year and a half, over Zoom, with my sensei from Yamaguchi. I've learned a lot about Japanese culture, and the language itself has given me a different perspective on the world, which has been surprising and delightful. A friend of mine lives in the country and I like to go help him with his garden occasionally. I don't watch many movies or TV, but when I do, I usually like to binge horror movies 🀣

Learning JavaScript has honestly been pretty easy so far, given my experience with other languages like C++ and Java, but I imagine it will become much more challenging when I get into frameworks later in the curriculum. I'm excited for the challenges and will give it my best!

Hello,

Would there be any weekend or late afternoon networking going on with Treehouse for people who may be working a 1st shift or 2nd shift somewhere?

Thank you,

Robert
