Well let's say for instance that your website has not one, but 20 pages. If your CSS is linked to an external file and you want to change the background color of your navigation bar which is the same across all 20 pages, then you only need to change it in one place. That would be the external CSS file that's linked to all 20 pages.

If you use internal styling on those pages, then you have to make that change not in one place... but 20.
