1,411 PointsA bit stuck - error is "I entered Zimmerman and expected to get back line 2 as Z comes after M"
Hello, I have spent a good amount of time trying to solve this, but am unable to get past this error. It seems like either the line int value is being misdefined, or there is something wrong with my if/else statements. Should I be using boolean somehow? There are no compiler errors. Thanks!

public int getLineFor(String lastName) {

Otherwise send them to line 2 */
char nameLetter = lastName.charAt(0);
char refLetter = 'm';

1,411 PointsI answered my own question! I just needed to capitalize the 'M' and add a int line = 0 before defining the char. My answer looked like this:

public int getLineFor(String lastName) { /* If the last name is between A thru M send them to line 1 Otherwise send them to line 2 */ int line = 0; char nameLetter = lastName.charAt(0); if (nameLetter <= 'M'){ line = 1; } else{ line = 2; } return line; }
