A TLD (top level domain) is the .com, .net., .org behind your website name. The .com is usally the most expensive because its more popular. Everyone knows a .com on a site. Then the cheaper ones are less known. But for functionanlly for your own website whatever TLD you go with will not affect your site. I use cheap ones like .website or .xyz for testing and to play with.
