HTML How to Make a Website Beginning HTML and CSS Write a CSS Selector and Property

adding color to h1

so it says to make a CSS to contain H1 which i put { <h1> } then it says to add color { <h1> .....do i close it off here or do leave the color in.. color: green;?? thanks for the help you guys

Hello Adrian,

In CSS if you wish to target a specific element it is done like so: element {}. Following shows with your example:

<style> 
  h1 {

  }
</style>

<h1>Nick Pettit</h1>

Likewise, when you go to add the properties it will show as:

<style> 
  h1 {
    color: green;
  }
</style>
<h1>Nick Pettit</h1>

I should also note that, whilst both HTML and CSS are markup languages, they both use different syntax's.

HTML uses tags to define structure to a webpage. The structure of HTML is as follows:

<tag> content </tag>

(There are exceptions regarding this structure)

Whereas, CSS uses selctors to alter the design of a webpage. CSS is as follows:

selector {
    property: value;
}
