Advice for College Students

I wanted to reach out to the Treehouse community for help. I am helping the KU school of business with revamping their Information Systems degree and I need some expert opinion on what businesses are looking for in an IS professional. You can give me a broad range of skills or specific skill sets that are needed for specific employment opportunities. I hope to hear from the great Treehouse Community soon!

The term IS professional is so overly board as to be void for vagueness.

I'd say there are a few major skill sets, each with various sub-fields:

  1. System Administration
  2. Web Design/Development
  3. Developers/Software Engineers

Treehouse only deals with 2nd of those fields. Within the web world there is a fairly wide range of jobs, here are some of the most popular skills.

  • HTML
  • CSS
  • UX
  • JQuery
  • PHP
  • Wordpress
  • Responsive Design
  • Wireframes and Mockups
  • MySQL
  • Version Control (e.g. Git)
  • Joomla
