After float() "add" returned the wrong results. why?

can someone explain me the reason, please?

trial.py
def add(b, a):
    float()
    return(b + a)

like this:

def add(a + b):

    return float(a) + float(b)

To change a variable's type you need to put it inside the function. float(variable)

you could also type this problem like this:

def add(a + b):

    a = float(a)

    b = float(b)

    return a + b
