Development Tools Console Foundations Getting Started with the Console Running Commands

Anybody have experience with Babun (linux-like console)?

Since Treehouse Console isn't working for me now, I'm experimenting with some linux/posix-like consoles so that I can actively participate with the "Console Foundations" course. Another route I may eventually choose later is to setup a virtual machine running linux.

Anyways, I was just wondering if anybody here has personal experience with using Babun or Cygwin or even another linux-like console for Windows?

Update:

  • As I go through the course, I found that Babun doesn't support adduser, but everything else is okay so far. Also, Babun is somewhat a Cygwin extension, so it's possible that one also doesn't support it, but I'm not sure.
  • Another difference is that its package manager is called pact (rather than apt-get) and already has all the build-essential tools pre-installed.
